Prader–Willisyndrome(PWS)andEhlers–Danlossyndrome(EDS)aretwodifferentgeneticaldisordersbothcharacterized,amongotherfeatures,bymuscularhypotonia.Posturalcontrolseemstobeimpairedinbothconditions.Theaimofthepresentstudywasto quantitativelycompareposturalcontrolinadultPWSandEDSusingstabilometricplatformtounveilpossiblecommondeterminantsofimpairedbalance.Weenrolled11PWS and21EDSadultpatientsand20age-matchedcontrols.Theywereinstructedtomaintainanuprightstandingpositionfor30swithopeneyes(OEs)focusingona6cmblack circlepositionedatadistanceof1.5m.Both PWSandEDSpatientswerecharacterizedbyhigherRANGEML,RANGEAPandtrajectorylengthofCoPvaluesascomparedtoCG.NostatisticallydifferenceswerefoundbetweenPWSandEDSintermsofanyoftheseparameters.Theresultsdemonstratedthatboth PWSandEDSarecharacterizedbyasevereposturalinstability.Musclehypotoniaandweaknessmayaccountforreducedbalancecapacity.Quantitativecharacterizationofinstabilityisimportanttoidentify,developandenhancerehabilitationinterventions.
