THE TERRITORIAL PROBLEMS AND THE DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS OUTLINED INTO THE ITALIAN GEOGRAPHICAL CONGRESS UNTIL THE BIRTH OF NATIONAL GEOGRAPHICAL COMITTEE (1892-1922) – The paper debates the studies to the territorial problems by the scholars of geographical sciences in the 1st and in the 4th Italian Geographical Congresses, proposing some possible solutions. For this purpose, the individual Congresses are analyzed, with the relations held by the lovers of the discipline, examining the turning point began with the 4th Geographical Congress (1901), during which Carlo Porro explored the territorial problems in order to promote a awareness of the solutions to be adopted. The assumptions date back to Porro’s participation in the fortnightly «La Geografia per Tutti» (1891) and the 1st Geographical Congress (1892), when the senior officer had intervened to support the knowledge and study of the geography of the Peninsula. Porro’s prolusion was preceded by a similar report by Guido Cora, which stressed the need to promote regional research and study of the territory. In the Geographical Congresses that were held after 1901, the theme became of considerable interest in the university, in the national symposiums and in the studies of geographical sciences.. In order to pay more attention to the problems of the territory and the solutions proposed, it will be necessary to wait for the birth of the National Geographical Committee (1922), which made the issue one of its priorities.
