Background: The presence of atrophic-erosive lesionsamong gingival tissues makes oral hygiene procedures difficult forseveral reasons. Plaque control and rigorous oral hygiene are afundamental requisite for the treatment of any oromucosaldisease. Case report: A patient suffering from a mixed atrophicerosiveform of oral lichen planus (OLP), with serious gingivalinvolvement, was also treated with the topical application ofclobetasol propionate 0.05% using gingival trays. The highest hygienestandards of both patient and trays were of fundamentalimportance. Discussion: The management of the patient suffering fromgingival atrophic-erosive OLP requires the synergic treatment of bothdentist and dental hygienist, whose contribution supports thecorticosteroid and ⁄ or immunosuppressive treatment.
