Intramural hematoma of the duodenum is a rare event. Because of the rarity of this pathology, there has been little conformity of opinions as to diagnosis and treatment of this disease. Diagnosis and treatment of hematoma of the duodenum are thoroughly examined in the present study. Plain abdominal radiography, oral barium study, ultrasound examination, CT and MRI are diagnostic tools in this disease. The authors report 3 cases of non traumatic Intramural hematoma of duodenum (IMHD), 2 due to anticoagulant therapy, the other observed in a patient after endoscopic hemostasis for duodenal ulcer. CT and especially MRI have a particular role for detection and characterization of the disease, also in consideration of therapeutic purposes.
