Educational courses must be inclusive, so as to allow anyone, regardless of personal skills and needs, to complete them profitably. To achieve true inclusion it is necessary that both technological tools and teaching contents are accessible, that is, usable by everyone. But that's not enough: educational courses must be designed to be inclusive from the very beginning, as theorized by Universal Design for Learning, a discipline that applies the principles of universal design to education. This contribution explores the issues of accessibility and inclusion, to highlight their impact on education and pupils.

Abstract

Educational courses must be inclusive, so as to allow anyone, regardless of personal skills and needs, to complete them profitably. To achieve true inclusion it is necessary that both technological tools and teaching contents are accessible, that is, usable by everyone. But that's not enough: educational courses must be designed to be inclusive from the very beginning, as theorized by Universal Design for Learning, a discipline that applies the principles of universal design to education. This contribution explores the issues of accessibility and inclusion, to highlight their impact on education and pupils.
