This book is based on my PhD thesis, on which I started working more than fifteen years ago. The reasons for publishing it today are mainfold. First, to offer an historical perspective on the changes in the architecture of the systems regulating and supervising the financial industry that took place in that period in Europe. Second, to give a detailed comparison of the distinct supervisory architectures in place in the European Member States, that in part still survive today. Third, to underline the theoretical debate on how to improve the regulatory and supervisory systems at European level that eventually led to the current architecture. Meanwhile, several changes took place both at the European level and within member countries. However, the main theoretical issues still remain valid. Furthermore, in this work, I propose several analysis that maybe of help both for a positive perspective and for normative suggestions to policy makers.

Abstract
Furthermore, in this work, I propose several analysis that maybe of help both for a positive perspective and for normative suggestions to policy makers.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
