Abstract

Digital technologies have radically transformed our daily lives. These technologies appear as physical and cognitive prostheses that give meaning and continuity to our actions, by changing significantly places, contests and socio-economic processes. The key word is 'digital innovation'. It is so pervasive and disruptive to dominate almost any space for discussion on the present and the future of our society: public policy, ageing, digital healthcare and empowerment communication are some of the possible variations which we'll cover in this reflection. The essay addresses the issue of digital innovation, declining its possible applications in health care as a strategy to contain the increasing costs of ageing populations, including the Italian situation, with the intent to promote a reflection on the empowerment policies as a possible intervention strategies to support social actors in awareness of their subjective and collective agency direct through an increasingly widespread responsible civic participation
