L'associazionismo professionale: uno studio qualitativo descrittivo su infermieri e ostetriche italiani

Professional membership is one of the distinctive hallmarks of a profession. Nursing and midwiferyassociations are important bodies for developing the culture and vision of these professions. In an age oftransformation, in which the associative patterns have changed and part of the relationship life goes on throughsocial networks, it is important to explore the phenomenon of associationism and to know what professionals haveto say and if and how they participate in the associative life. The main purpose of this study is to investigate anddescribe how nurses and midwives experience professional associations and personal membership and tounderstand the underlying reasons for joining or not joining a professional association.Methods A qualitative descriptive study was conducted on a conventional sample of 140 Italian nurses andmidwives. Data were collected through an “ad hoc” questionnaire.Results The analysis of the responses showed the differing perceptions of the participants about associationism.The results highlighted a lack of knowledge about the functions of professional associations and theirdistinctiveness from the ordinistic system. 60% of the respondents weren't members of any association.Conclusions The participants stated that associationism can contribute to the development of the profession andshowed an interest in the possibility of applying, even if the decision seems to be proportional to the costeffectiveness ratio. Given the scarce research in Italy in this field, further studies are recommended for a broaderunderstanding of the phenomenon. It is also important to promote new forms of association for excludedcategories

L’associazionismo professionale è una delle caratteristiche distintive di una professione. Leassociazioni infermieristiche e ostetriche sono enti utili per aiutare a sviluppare cultura e visione della professione.In un’epoca di cambiamenti, in cui le modalità associative si sono modificate e parte della vita di relazione sisvolge con i social network, è importante esplorare il fenomeno dell’associazionismo e conoscere cosa pensanoi professionisti e se e come partecipano alla vita associativa. L’obiettivo dello studio è descrivere come infermierie ostetriche percepiscono l’associazionismo e le associazioni professionali e comprendere le motivazioni chespingono ad appartenere o meno ad una associazione professionale.Materiali e metodi E’ stato condotto uno studio qualitativo descrittivo su un campione propositivo di 140professionisti infermieri e ostetriche italiani. I dati sono stati raccolti attraverso un questionario costruito ad hoc.Risultati L’analisi delle risposte ha fatto emergere le diverse percezioni dei partecipanti circa l’associazionismo.I risultati evidenziano una non chiara conoscenza circa le funzioni delle associazioni professionali e della lorodistinzione con il sistema ordinistico. Il 60% degli intervistati non è iscritto a nessuna associazione.Conclusioni I partecipanti hanno dichiarato che l’associazionismo può contribuire allo sviluppo della professionee si dimostrano interessati alla possibilità di iscriversi anche se la decisione di essere membro o meno diun’organizzazione professionale sembra sia proporzionale al rapporto costi/benefici. Considerando l’insufficientericerca in Italia in questo ambito vengono suggeriti ulteriori studi per una comprensione più ampia del fenomeno.
